And the radio silence breaks!
The bad news is I'm about to inflict upon you the nastiest thing I think I've ever painted. More on that in a minute.
Over in Scott Flanders' discord the magnificent Joey Ro has been leading the charge on a great design prompt for October. To shake off the rust of a couple months of stay-at-home-dad life and large move for my family I decided to take a crack at a beasty...
... a Rotgnaw to be precise.

I know- he's pretty grody.
The idea was to take a tardigrade, naked mole rat, and maybe a toad or lamprey and make something that heaves itself around a rotting squash patch. To feed it would simply slam it's face into the rot and gorge itself on whatever it found.
Below are some of the explorations and references. (My scanner is still 700 miles away in our moving POD, so apologies for the awful photographs)
The arms didn't show up the way they are in the painting until the final thumbnail of early in the rendering process. I liked how they broke up the bloat with some thin crooked angles. In the end it helped push the idea that maybe this guy rapidly mutated and his body didn't handle it very well.
Next week I'm thinking I'll focus on some Neurowitch Inquisitors... I sketched some a while back and never got around to sharing them. I'll have a go at a render and share in the next post.
